The Review:
So, you're sitting there thinking that maybe you've seen everything a movie could possibly offer and you've seen some weird, wild, and crazy shit. Well, strap on your seatbelt and put on whatever protective headgear you might have available because this movie is going to drive you off a cliff, reconstruct your brain, and then give birth to something so strange, you won't know what to do with yourself.

There's conventional filmmaking, there's commercial filmmaking, and then there's movies like this that I suppose would fall into a more artistic category if you feel the need to apply labels to movies. I will tell you this movie is not for everyone. There are some pretty brutal and gruesome moments that are very impactful even if they are not the entire movie. There is a lot going on here from a story telling perspective and these extreme moments add vehement punctuation to the messaging.

The story tackles sexuality, gender roles, and male toxicity just to name a few topics. There are also elements of revenge porn, not actual porn by any means, but the fact that the main character literally has sex with a car does lean that direction I guess. Have I mentioned this is also a science fiction movie? And I mean that also in the least conventional way possible. There is seriously so much going on within this movie that it's not easy to wrap your head around but at the same time it is a very satisfying and rewarding experience.

I think the highlight of this movie for me is the performance by Agathe Rousselle as Alexia partly because of how much she is asked to take on and partly because this is her first role in a feature film. What she accomplishes is stunning and some of the best work I have seen this year and the movie doesn't work nearly as well as it does without he being in it.

The Verdict:
Titane is the craziest, most unique, most savage, most undefinable, and most captivating movie I have watched this year. The movie is so brutal and so honest while also reaching to the extreme at every turn including the lead performance from newcomer Agathe Rousselle.
