The Review:
Dave Grohl will always have a special place in the hearts of Seattle area music lovers as he is probably best known as the drummer for Nirvana and also as the lead singer and guitarist of the Foo Fighters. Now that appreciation may progress even further as he makes his way into the world of cinema as well. This movie obviously feels like a rock band got together to film a movie at someone's house and I'm still not quite sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Some of it just seems thrown together without much thought while other parts of the movie are executed beautifully especially when it comes to the moments that require a lot of special effects work, both practical and digital. I really enjoyed the thought that went into the paranormal aspects of the movie which includes a lot of unique ideas along with large buckets of movie blood for the gorier scenes.
What's interesting about this movie is that its faults are actually part of its charm so the whole thing ends up being reasonably entertaining even as it sort of stumbles through the loose threads of what makes for a plot. The filmmakers know not to take things too seriously if at all while not crossing the line into parody.
The Verdict:
Studio 666 is an entertaining horror comedy that fans of Dave Grohl and his band the Foo Fighters will certainly enjoy. Casual storytelling mixed with some impressive effects work makes for the type of horror comedy that genre fans should also have no problem getting in to.
