The Review:
Sometimes I wonder if the found footage concept has run its course although I don't see any end in site when it come to putting together these productions since they are cheap and generally profitable for the studios that put them out. We're definitely at the point where there's enough product out there where we get to take the good with the not so good and always hope for the best.
Unfortunately, Dagr leans more towards the not so good for me even with a premise that I can get down with, the execution just wasn't there. This is one of those rare instances where I think a horror movie could have used a bit longer run time, it clocks in at a very lean 1 hour and 17 minutes, because it just doesn't feel complete to me especially when it comes to the lore and backstory of why the house is haunted or cursed or whatever.
Also, the movie is being framed as a horror comedy although it plays as a straight horror movie with some fun stuff that happens in the first act to set things up. Once the scares start happening, there's no comedy and it doesn't feel like it's meant to be campy so that's a bit confusing. I also didn't really care much for any of the characters so seeing them get taken down one by one wasn't really a big deal for me, I was just like, okay next.
If you're really into found footage horror movies, you still might find something to like here and it's not a huge time investment so I won't tell you not to check it out. It's a decent movie, just not anything memorable or something I would consider watching again.
