The Shallows is a horror thriller about a young woman who travels to a remote beach in Mexico in search of emotional freedom only to find herself literally trapped in the waters just off shore with a deadly threat tracking her every move. The movie, directed by Jaume Collett-Serra, features acting performances by Blake Lively, Óscar Jaenada, Brett Cullen, and Sedona Legge.
At first glance, I was surprised at the amount of well known actors in a movie that hardly anyone has heard of, but after gaining a lot of attention on the film festival circuit, I figured it was worth a shot. Also, I have become a fan of young Chloë Grace Moretz from her work in "Kick-Ass", "Hugo", and "Let Me In" so I was very interested to see what she could do while taking on her very own starring role.
"Savages" is yet another example of Oliver Stone's ability to generate that uniquely identifiable visual style and how he can draw out great performances from a star studded lineup of actors and actresses. This movie is overflowing with guns, drugs, sex, all kinds of attitude, and a cast of characters that is ready to kill each other at the drop of a hat.
