August: Osage County - Movie Review

August: Osage County, directed by John Wells, is based on a popular stage play written by Tracy Letts. The movie features an amazing cast including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Juliette Lewis, Chris Cooper, Sam Shepard, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney, Margot Martindale, Julianne Nicholson, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Seriously, I shouldn't have to say anything else to get you to see this movie...but I will because otherwise this would be a very short review.

Mud - Movie Review

Mud seems to be intended as a vehicle for Matthew McConaughey to flex his acting muscle and further his career as a viable leading man candidate while director Jeff Nichols looks to add another building block to the foundation of his budding career. Sam Sheppard, Reese Witherspoon, and Tye Sheridan also star in a story about man hiding from his ghosts and the two boys who try to help him reclaim a lost love.

Safe House - Movie Review

There are two things you can count on when Denzel Washington is in a movie. The first is that he will be the coolest person on the screen at all times and the other is that it will be a movie worth watching. Both are absolutely true with this movie and on top of that, Ryan Reynolds gives a gritty performance that I honestly didn't think he was capable of.

Blackthorn - Movie Review

The classic Western film, when done well, can be a thing of beauty, like a prized horse within the midst of all the tumbleweeds and empty shotgun shells. There have been several movies that have told the tale of the legendary Butch Cassidy along with his partner, the Sundance Kid, and I'm sure there will be more of these stories along with the occasional re-imagining of ones we have already seen. Blackthorn is the telling of what may have happened if the rumors are to be believed that Butch and Sundance were not killed by Bolivian soldiers in 1908.
